Diaspora
INTO Colombia: LEBANESE and Syrian families from the 1880s, settling especially in the Caribbean towns — Maicao, Barranquilla, Cartagena, Lorica, Ciénaga — and giving Colombia the KIBBE, the arepa de huevo’s neighbours, and the quibbe and tahini now sold as costeño food; Italians; Germans in Santander and the founding of the first airline; Chinese; Jewish communities in Barranquilla, Cali and Bogotá; and since 2015 the largest VENEZUELAN migration in the hemisphere, which has put arepas rellenas, tequeños, pabellón and cachapas on Colombian streets at scale. OUT: the Colombian diaspora in the United States (New York, Miami), Spain, Venezuela, Ecuador, Chile and Canada.
