⚠ ONE OF THE LARGEST DISPLACEMENTS IN THE WORLD. Somewhere around seven to eight million people have left Venezuela since 2014 — the great majority to COLOMBIA, then Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Brazil, the United States (Florida above all, and the Doral "Doralzuela"), Spain, Argentina, Panama and the Dominican Republic. The food went with them and is now visible everywhere: the arepa stand, the tequeño, the pabellón, the cachapa, the Christmas hallaca reconstructed abroad with whatever leaf can be found. ⚠ DIASPORA VENEZUELAN FOOD IS NOT IDENTICAL TO FOOD IN VENEZUELA: it uses what is available, is often better supplied than the home kitchen, and has become a small-business sector in a dozen countries.
