Nasa and Misak Foodways

Indigenous

The NASA (Páez) and MISAK (Guambiano) of Cauca — two of the most politically organised Indigenous peoples in the Americas, whose Cabildos and the CRIC have driven land recovery and the constitutional recognition of Indigenous autonomy since the 1970s, and whose GUARDIA INDÍGENA carries staffs rather than weapons. Their food is the high cold Cauca massif: maize and its chicha, potato, ulluco, oca, beans, quinoa, the páramo, and the TUL — the Nasa household garden, polycultural by design, which is a documented food-sovereignty practice and a political statement about how land should be farmed. ⚠ THEIR CEREMONIAL LIFE IS NOT RECORDED HERE.
