Spring: the fast, then Easter, then wild greens, nettles and sorrel, and the flocks going up to the polonyna. Summer: dairy at its height, berries, the hay, the first new potatoes, fruit. Autumn: harvest, mushrooms, plums and apples, distilling, cabbage into the barrel, the flocks coming down. Winter: the pig killed, the Nativity Fast, Christmas Eve, and a cellar that has to last until spring.
