The open steppe running down to the Danube and the Black Sea: hotter, drier, and the most plural part of the country, with Gagauz, Bulgarian, Moldovan and Ukrainian villages side by side. Sheep and lamb matter more here than anywhere else, and so do peppers, tomatoes and melons.
