Colombia is among the largest producers of washed ARABICA and the largest of mild arabica; coffee arrived in the eighteenth century and became the export that built the Andean economy. The EJE CAFETERO — Caldas, Quindío, Risaralda and parts of Valle, Tolima and Antioquia — is inscribed by UNESCO as the COFFEE CULTURAL LANDSCAPE, a heritage listing for a farmed landscape and its settlement pattern of small family fincas. Also grown in Huila, Nariño, Cauca, Santander and the Sierra Nevada. The domestic drink is the TINTO, small, black, sweetened, carried in a thermos and sold on every street. ⚠ JUAN VALDEZ IS A 1959 ADVERTISING CREATION of the coffee growers’ federation, not a person or a tradition, and is recorded as marketing.
