About 1.3 million Swedes emigrated between 1850 and 1930 — proportionally among the largest European emigrations — overwhelmingly to the United States and Canada, with smaller streams to Argentina, Brazil, Australia and, earlier, the New Sweden colony on the Delaware from 1638.
