Diaspora
A fifth or more of the population left in the 19th century, mostly for the UNITED STATES โ Wisconsin above all, with Port Washington, Belgium and Luxemburg in that state, plus Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota and Chicago โ and for France, Brazil and Argentina. Luxembourg American cultural societies and the Roots and Leaves museum keep the connection, and the surviving foods are the ones that travel: Bouneschlupp, Gromperekichelcher, Trรคipen and the treipen-and-sauerkraut church supper.
