Modern Belarusian borders date from 1945. Before that these lands were the Ruthenian core of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, then Commonwealth voivodeships, then Russian imperial governorates, then divided between Poland and the BSSR. Historical geography is not projected onto the present.documented
