Historical period
The food of Acadie in the Maritimes before 1755: wheat and rye, cabbage and turnips, salt pork, cod and shellfish, dairy, and the diked salt-marsh farmland that supported it. The ancestor of Cajun foodways, and not the same thing as it.
Acadian is the ancestor, Cajun the Louisiana development. The terms are not interchangeable.
โ DIRECTION CORRECTED. Acadie is Maritime Canada before 1755; Cajun Louisiana is what the deportation produced. The ancestor is not a variant of its descendant.
