Rusyn Food Vocabulary and Its Varieties

Food terms differ across the Rusyn range and the differences are recorded, not normalised: pyrohy / pirohy for filled dough; holubky for stuffed cabbage; bobaľky for the small Christmas Eve dough balls; machanka for a dipping sauce; kysele / kyselycia for soured grain soup; brynza for the sheep cheese; halušky for small dumplings. Cyrillic and Latin spellings are both in current use, and Pannonian Rusyn diverges from all of it.
