The Alpine Rhine and the Valley Floor

Agricultural region

The Rhine valley floor was marsh and flood plain until the corrections and drainage of the 19th and early 20th centuries โ€” the Binnenkanal, the dykes and the great 1927 flood that broke them โ€” and only then became the arable land that grows the maize for Riebel, plus wheat, sugar beet, vegetables and orchard fruit. โš  A MADE LANDSCAPE, and the food follows from the engineering.
