Greenlander, Kalaallit, Inuit — a note

Comparison

⚠ A WARNING ROW, AND THESE WORDS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE. KALAALLIT NUNAAT is the country’s own name. KALAALLIT are the Inuit people of Greenland, and the term most properly fits West Greenlanders; the Inughuit of the far north-west and the Tunumiit of the east have their own names and their own languages. GREENLANDER is a civic term for a resident, and NOT EVERY GREENLANDER IS INUIT — there is a long-settled Danish minority and other communities. INUIT covers peoples across Greenland, Canada and Alaska, and GREENLANDIC FOODWAYS ARE NOT ALL INUIT FOODWAYS NOR ALL OF THEM. The Kingdom of Denmark is a political fact and not a culinary category.
