The food of the Gagauz โ€” a Turkic-speaking, Orthodox Christian people settled in the southern steppe from the early 19th century, with an autonomous territorial unit centred on Comrat. โš  NOT A VARIANT OF MOLDOVAN COOKING. Sheep and lamb, dairy, wheat and maize, layered and filled pastries, peppers and tomatoes, and a wine tradition of its own. Its relationships run to Bulgarian, Turkish, Balkan and Black Sea foodways as much as to Moldovan.
