Agricultural region

Rolling hills of deep chernozem — among the most fertile soils in Europe — grading from forest-steppe in the north and centre to open steppe in the south, cut by the Dniester and Prut and their terraces. Roughly three quarters of the country is agricultural land, which is why the food is a farm food and why wine, fruit and grain dominate the export economy.
