The Sunday before Lent: children in costume, the barrel beaten until the sweets fall out, and FASTELAVNSBOLLER — which are now a cream- or custard-filled and iced bun from the bakery, and were historically a plainer wheat bun eaten before the fast. The modern form is a bakery product with competitive annual variations; the historical form is a different object and both are recorded.
