Danish Landscape and Farmland

Agricultural region

A low country of moraine and outwash plain โ€” nothing above 171 m โ€” where roughly sixty per cent of the land area is farmed, one of the highest shares anywhere. Heavy clay in the east and on the islands grows wheat and sugar beet; the sandy west of Jutland was heath until the great reclamation of the 19th century and grows rye, potatoes and grass for dairy. No part of the country is more than about 50 km from the sea.
