The southern islands, the flattest and warmest land in Denmark: sugar beet above all — the Danish sugar industry is concentrated here — with wheat, apples, and a Polish-descended community from the beet-harvesting migration of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the "roepolakker", whose presence is part of the local food record.
