The Scania Market on the ร˜resund, where Hanseatic merchants bought salted herring in enormous quantity; the Sound Dues levied on every ship passing Helsingรธr from 1429 to 1857, which funded the Crown and made the strait a chokepoint of the Baltic grain trade; salt from Lรผneburg and the Bay of Biscay; and the import of wine, spices, hops and later grain through German and Dutch intermediaries.
