Between 1944 and 1946 many Lemkos were transferred to the Soviet Union; in 1947 Operation Vistula deported the remainder to the former German territories in northern and western Poland, dispersing them deliberately so that communities could not reform. โ CHRONOS DISTINCTION: the deportation is a documented event with dates and orders; what a family now remembers of it, and what the food is now taken to mean, is community memory โ related, and not the same kind of statement.
