Levantine-Argentine Foodways

Diaspora

Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian and Armenian migration from the late 19th century — arriving on Ottoman papers and therefore long called "turcos", ⚠ a misnomer this system does not adopt — settling heavily in the NORTHWEST, in Tucumán, Santiago del Estero and Córdoba as well as Buenos Aires. KIBE and SFIHA (fatay) are ordinary northwestern Argentine food; the ARAB EMPANADA and the Argentine empanada sit visibly next to each other; and hummus, tabbouleh and stuffed vine leaves are unremarkable in Tucumán.
