⚠ NOT EXTINCT AND NOT MARGINAL. Argentina recognises more than thirty Indigenous peoples, and the national narrative of a "European country" has historically obscured them — which is itself part of the food record. MAPUCHE in Neuquén, Río Negro and Chubut; QOM, WICHÍ, MOQOIT and PILAGÁ in the Chaco, with a foodway built on algarrobo, chañar, mistol, honey, fish and hunting; GUARANÍ in the Litoral; KOLLA, DIAGUITA and ATACAMA in the Andes; HUARPE in Cuyo; and the Tehuelche, Selk’nam and Yagán of the far south, whose peoples suffered documented genocide in the nineteenth century. ⚠ Rows here carry no sacred material and no community locations.
