Biadh na Gàidhlig
Ethnolinguistic
The foodways of Gaelic-speaking Scotland — the Hebrides above all, with Lewis, Harris, the Uists, Barra, Skye and pockets of the west Highland mainland — where GÀIDHLIG remains a community language with its own schooling, broadcasting and food vocabulary. Crofting, the blackhouse hearth, oats and barley, potatoes, sheep and cattle, seabirds where it was lawful, and fish above all. ⚠ GAELIC FOODWAYS ARE NOT ALL SCOTTISH FOODWAYS, are NOT merely historical, and are continuous with Irish Gaelic foodways across a sea that was a road rather than a barrier.
