Yerba mate drunk ICE COLD from a guampa through a bombilla, with POHÃ ÑANA — medicinal and aromatic herbs, crushed fresh in a wooden mortar and added to the water — and shared round a circle from one vessel. It is the Paraguayan national drink, suited to a country that is very hot, and it is recognised as national cultural heritage; the practice of tereré with pohã ñana is inscribed on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list.
