Norwegian Agriculture

Agricultural region

Under three per cent of Norway is arable and most of that is in ร˜stlandet and Trรธndelag. Barley and oats were the grains that ripened; wheat is marginal and mostly modern. Potatoes, swede, turnip, carrot and cabbage; peas; and fruit in the fjord microclimates. The farm holdings are small, the season is short, and the whole system historically depended on combining a little arable with a lot of pasture, a boat and a forest.
