Icelandic Foraging and Sea Plants

Specialised

Crowberries and bilberries in quantity on the heath; wild thyme, angelica — a cultivated and traded plant in the Middle Ages — scurvy grass and dandelion; Iceland moss, a lichen boiled into porridge and used as a famine and medicinal food; and SÖL, dulse, dried and eaten with butter, along with other seaweeds. There are very few wild mushrooms and almost no trees.
