Frisian Agriculture

Agricultural region

Two soils and two farming systems. The KLEI, the sea-clay marsh, reclaimed behind dikes over a thousand years, growing grass for dairy, plus wheat, sugar beet, seed potatoes and onions. The GEEST and the bog behind it, sandy and acid, growing rye, buckwheat, oats and potatoes and keeping pigs and sheep. The terp mounds, the dikes, the windmills and the polder drainage are all food infrastructure.
