The southern steppe, historically grazed by Nogai Tatars and resettled from the early 19th century with Gagauz, Bulgarian, German, Ukrainian and Moldovan colonists. ⚠ IT STRADDLES A MODERN BORDER: most of the Budjak is in Ukraine’s Odesa region and part is in southern Moldova. Sheep, lamb, peppers, tomatoes, melons, wheat and wine.
