Bruxelles / Brussel
City
⚠ NOT FLEMISH FOOD AND NOT WALLOON FOOD. Brussels is a Region of its own: geographically inside Flanders, officially bilingual, historically Dutch-speaking in a Brabantian variety, majority French-speaking in daily life, and with a very large foreign-born population — EU institutions, and Moroccan, Turkish, Congolese, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Polish and Romanian communities. Its own foods: BRUSSELS WAFFLE, stoemp, choesels, the shrimp croquette, the Sablon chocolatiers, the Grand Place brewers’ house, and the GUEUZE of the Senne valley. Molenbeek, Schaerbeek, Saint-Josse, Ixelles, Saint-Gilles and Anderlecht each eat differently.
Languages: Dutch, French, Dutch (Brabantian)
⚠ A Region in its own right — not part of Flanders or Wallonia.
