The fjord country from Rogaland to Møre: steep ground, little arable, sheep and goats, orchards on the inner fjord shelves where the water keeps the frost off, fish from the fjord and the open sea, and a strong nynorsk and Pietist culture. Sogn, Hardanger, Voss, Sunnmøre, Nordmøre and Romsdal are its districts.
