Specialised

The guinea pig was domesticated in the Andes several thousand years ago and is a household livestock animal kept in the kitchen โ€” it converts scraps into protein on land that will support nothing larger. Eaten roasted (al horno), fried (chactado, pressed under a stone in Arequipa) or in stew, at festivals, weddings and family occasions, in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador. โš  ENGLISH "GUINEA PIG" CARRIES A PET ASSOCIATION THAT CUY DOES NOT. The Quechua and Spanish terms are used here and the animal is recorded as the Andean livestock species it is.
