⚠ A COMPARISON LAYER FOR SMALL ISLANDS THAT ARE NOT THE SAME. The Leewards — Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat, Anguilla — and the Windwards — Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada — plus Barbados out on its own to windward and Trinidad and Tobago on the South American shelf. What they share: volcanic soil (except Barbados and Antigua, which are limestone and therefore drier), a sugar history, an African-descended majority, ground provisions, salt fish, breadfruit, the one-pot, and an economy that imports most of its food. ⚠ WHAT THEY DO NOT SHARE IS A KITCHEN, and the near-identical dish names across them conceal real differences.
