Faroese Island and Village Foodways

Island

Eighteen islands, of which all but one are inhabited, and a food geography that is village by village. STREYMOY with Tórshavn; EYSTUROY, the most populous after it, with Fuglafjørður and the northern villages; VÁGAR; SANDOY; SUÐUROY, the southernmost, with Tvøroyri and Vágur and its own accent and identity; and the NORÐOYAR — Borðoy with Klaksvík, the fishing capital, and Kunoy, Kalsoy, Viðoy, Svínoy and Fugloy, the small northern islands where seabird and sheep traditions are strongest. MYKINES for puffins, NÓLSOY, KOLTUR, SKÚVOY, STÓRA DÍMUN — a single farm — and LÍTLA DÍMUN, uninhabited.
