Collective and state farms, the end of most private flocks and of much polonyna dairying, suppression of the Greek Catholic Church from 1946 in Ukraine and 1950 in Czechoslovakia — which drove the ritual calendar into the household — shortages and queues, and industrial bread, sausage and tinned goods entering a kitchen that had made its own.
