⚠ NOT ONE PEOPLE AND NOT ONE FOODWAY. Paraguay recognises around twenty Indigenous peoples in five linguistic families. GUARANÍ-speaking peoples — Ava Guaraní, Mbyá, Paĩ Tavyterã, Aché, Guaraní Ñandéva, Guaraní Occidental — in the east, with mandioca, maize, forest gathering, fishing and hunting. MASKOY and ENLHET-ENENLHET peoples of the Chaco — Enxet, Enlhet, Angaité, Sanapaná, Guaná. MATACO-MATAGUAYO — Nivaclé, Maká, Manjui. ZAMUCO — Ayoreo and Chamacoco/Yshir. ⚠ THE ÁYOREO INCLUDE THE ONLY PEOPLE LIVING IN VOLUNTARY ISOLATION OUTSIDE AMAZONIA, and nothing in this system records anything about them beyond their existence and their legal protection.
Paraguay recognises around twenty Indigenous peoples across five linguistic families, with the largest concentration in the Chaco. Their foodways are not uniform and are not reducible to Guaraní foodways. Ayoreo groups living in voluntary isolation are recorded only as to their existence and legal protection; nothing further about them appears in this system.documented
