Vilna was the Jerusalem of Lithuania and Jews were around a third of Vilnius before 1941: dark rye, herring, kugel, tsimmes, and a rabbinic and intellectual culture destroyed in the Holocaust. ⚠ Recorded as heritage, with its traces in the general kitchen — kugelis among them — named as traces.
