Liechtensteiner Foodways

Liachtaschtaner Choscht

National

The food of an Alpine Rhine principality of eleven municipalities: dairy and Alpine cheese from the summer pastures above, maize and wheat on the Rhine valley floor below, potatoes, pork and sausage, game from the forest, and wine from the terraces at Vaduz and Schaan. RIEBEL, the coarse maize porridge, and KÄSKNÖPFLE, the cheese-and-onion dumplings, are its two defining dishes. ⚠ NOT A SUBSECTION OF SWISS OR AUSTRIAN FOOD — both are edges — and ⚠ NOT ALL OF IT IS WALSER.
