Very large communities in the UNITED STATES โ MIAMIโs Little Haiti above all, plus Brooklyn, Boston and New Jersey โ in CANADA, overwhelmingly MONTREAL, where Haitian Creole is a major community language and Haitian restaurants are ordinary; in FRANCE; in the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, where Haitian and Haitian-descended workers are a large and precarious population; and in the Bahamas, Chile and Brazil more recently. Griot, diri djondjon, pikliz and soup joumou on 1 January travel intact; patties and the fritay stand appear wherever the community does.
