KALAALLISUT (West Greenlandic) is the official language and the standard; TUNUMIISUT (East Greenlandic) and INUKTUN (Polar Eskimo, of the Qaanaaq district) are distinct and not mutually intelligible with it. Food vocabulary is correspondingly regional. ⚠ GREENLANDIC TERMS ARE PRESERVED HERE and are not replaced by Danish or English equivalents: kalaalimernit, mattak, suaasat, kiviaq, ammassat.
