Diaspora
Heavy 19th and early 20th century emigration, above all from Fryslân and the North Frisian islands: to the UNITED STATES — the Dutch Reformed settlements of Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois, and a notable Föhr emigration into the New York delicatessen and restaurant trade; to CANADA in large numbers after 1945; and to Australia, New Zealand, Brazil and South Africa. The surviving markers are the coffee table, sûkerbôle, oliebollen, dúmkes and the church supper.
