A recognised German-speaking minority in North Schleswig since the 1920 plebiscite, with its own schools, churches and associations — and a mirror-image Danish minority in Germany south of the border. The baking, sausage and coffee-table traditions are genuinely shared across the line, which is exactly why the border is not a culinary boundary.
