Danish Beer Foodways

Specialised

Beer has been the everyday drink for a very long time and the industrial story is unusually important: Carlsberg from 1847, and its laboratory’s isolation of a pure lager yeast in 1883, which changed brewing worldwide and was given away rather than patented. Pilsner as the default; hvidtøl, the low-alcohol dark beer eaten with øllebrød; påskebryg and julebryg as seasonal strong beers; and a craft sector since the 2000s.
