Agricultural region

Wheat and spelt on the plateau, rye and barley in the mountains where nothing else ripened, oats, buckwheat in the southern valleys, maize in Ticino and the Rhine valley, and chestnut flour where the trees grew. Altitude decided the grain, and the grain decided the bread.
