Jewish Danish Foodways

Community

A community in Copenhagen since 1684, with the Great Synagogue of 1833 and a food life of Ashkenazi forms adapted to Danish ingredients. In October 1943 the great majority โ€” over 7,000 people โ€” were carried to Sweden by Danish fishing boats and civilians and survived; most returned. The community continues, with later arrivals from Poland in 1969. โš  A DISTINCT TRADITION in relationship with Danish foodways, not a component of them.
