Historical period

Occupation from April 1940 to May 1945, with severe rationing, ersatz coffee, fish as the available protein, and the burning of Finnmark and northern Troms in the 1944 scorched-earth retreat, which destroyed the food base of a whole region. Rationing on some goods continued into the 1950s.
