Nordic and Scandinavian — a note on the words

Comparison

⚠ A WARNING ROW. SCANDINAVIA means Denmark, Norway and Sweden — three countries with closely related North Germanic languages. The NORDIC COUNTRIES are those three plus Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Greenland and Åland. FINLAND IS NORDIC AND NOT SCANDINAVIAN, and Finnish is not a Germanic language at all. ICELAND IS NORDIC and is usually treated as North Atlantic rather than Scandinavian in the geographic sense, though its language is North Germanic. The two words are not interchangeable and this corpus keeps them as two levels of the tree.
