Icelandic Agriculture

Agricultural region

Barley ripened in the settlement centuries when the climate was warmer, failed through the Little Ice Age, and is grown again now. Otherwise: hay, the crop that mattered most because it kept the animals alive; potatoes and swede from the 18th century; rhubarb; and the geothermal greenhouse vegetables. Sheep, the Icelandic cattle breed, horses and poultry.
