Historical period

One duchy cut in half in 1920 along the Olza: Cieszyn in Poland, Český Těšín in Czechia, one town with two names and two states. Habsburg until 1918, Lutheran in large part unlike Catholic Upper Silesia, with Goral highland foodways in the Beskids above it — sheep cheese, mutton, cabbage — and a shared dialect across the river.
