Linguistic
⚠ A DIALECT ROW, AND A FAMOUS ONE. A small bread roll is called — depending strictly on where you are — a ROLL, BAP, BARM or barm cake, BATCH, COB, BREAD CAKE, TEACAKE, BUN, MUFFIN, STOTTIE, OVEN BOTTOM or NUDGER. These map onto real regional boundaries and are surveyed academically. ⚠ NONE IS INCORRECT ENGLISH. Likewise the midday and evening meals are DINNER and TEA in much of the north and midlands and LUNCH and DINNER elsewhere, which is a class and regional variable and not an error. Regional terms are stored, never normalised away.
